Finally a diet that works

Someone once asked me, How many times have you started a diet or decided to eat healthier, only to fall back into your old habits a week or two later. Resolutions often set us up for failure. Going on a diet isn't fun, and when we think about dieting we think about starving and after a week is time to quit.

This time I am suggesting to create a plan to have a vision: How would you feel in a month? in 6 months? next year? Do you want to look and feel the same way you do now? if so, great keep up the good work. If not, what do you need to change and how are you going to make you plan a reality? How are you going to make this Diet Work?

First you have to attach meaning to your plan. how much does it matter to you? If you start exercising to help you loose weight, in a month, you may not be motivated to stick with it, and then your diet plan will not work. However, if you start an exercise program because you want to have more energy to play with your kids or your grandkids, you will be more likely to make exercise a long term habit. So think about what really drives you and let that motivation drive your plan.

Next, make you plan a positive statement. "I am going to get healthy" is a positive statement. It gives us hope and possibilities. I drives us to make healthy lifestyle changes. "I am going to loose 10 lbs in 2 weeks" conjures up negative images of diets and gruelling exercise sessions.

Finally, Wake up each morning and think "What can I do today to reach my plan". Below I created a list of healthy activities you can do each day to create the world you want.

* Start your day with breakfast - Include a fruit or a vegetable, a whole grain and a protein source.
* Be active for 25-45 minutes every day.
* Eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day.
* Take a deep breath and relax.
* Stretch or do yoga - It is important to stay flexible as we age.
* Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
* Socialize. Connect with friends and relatives and organize social activities.
* Smile - Smile at your children, friends, and co-workers.
* Spend time outdoors - Even in the cold climate, try to get some fresh air.
